Opposition parties intensified their criticism of the Central government on Wednesday by observing a “Black Day” protest in Parliament. Several Members of Parliament from the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), and Trinamool Congress (TMC) arrived dressed in black, alleging that students and lawmakers were subjected to excessive force and mistreatment by security personnel during recent demonstrations.
The protest highlighted growing opposition concerns over the government’s response to student agitations and the broader discontent surrounding the country’s education system. By coming together under the “Black Day” banner, opposition leaders sought to present a united stance and demand greater accountability and dialogue on issues affecting students nationwide.
Leaders participating in the demonstration stated that the protest was aimed at drawing attention to what they described as an increasingly tense atmosphere on educational campuses and the need for policy measures to address concerns within the national education framework.
Congress Protests Detentions, Demands Action on Paper Leaks
Adding to the opposition’s criticism of the Centre, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Sanjay Yadav raised concerns over repeated examination paper leaks and rising unemployment among the country’s youth. He alleged that the government has failed to ensure transparency in competitive examinations and accused it of taking a harsh approach toward students demanding accountability.
Addressing reporters, Yadav claimed that numerous examination leaks have occurred during the current administration and questioned the government’s focus on welfare measures while, according to him, millions of young people continue to face unemployment and uncertainty about their future.
He further stated that students and youth have been compelled to take to the streets to voice their concerns over employment opportunities and examination integrity. Yadav also alleged that the government has been unwilling to acknowledge shortcomings in its policies and handling of these issues.
The remarks came amid the opposition’s “Black Day” protest in Parliament, where leaders from several parties united to highlight concerns related to student agitations, unemployment, and the state of the national education system.
