The United States and Iran are moving closer to a possible diplomatic agreement, but negotiators have not yet finalized a deal, according to US Vice President JD Vance.
Speaking to reporters, Vance said both sides had made significant progress during recent discussions. However, he stressed that important differences still remain and negotiators continue working through several unresolved issues.
His comments came amid reports that US and Iranian negotiators have drafted a memorandum of understanding that could extend the current ceasefire and open the door to broader talks on Iran’s nuclear programme. The proposal still requires approval from President Donald Trump and has not been formally accepted by Tehran.

“We’re not there yet, but we’re very close,” Vance told reporters while expressing cautious optimism about the negotiations. He added that the US believes Iran is negotiating in good faith.
