The political drama in Karnataka appears far from over despite Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation. Senior Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar travelled to New Delhi for crucial discussions with the party leadership.
Both leaders met Rahul Gandhi and Congress Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala as the party weighed its next steps following the leadership transition. The meeting signalled that discussions within the Congress remain active even after Siddaramaiah stepped down.
The Congress high command now faces the challenge of managing factional interests while ensuring stability in one of its most important state governments.
Karnataka leadership row moves to Delhi
The Karnataka leadership row has dominated state politics for weeks amid speculation over a change of guard in Bengaluru.
Siddaramaiah formally resigned as chief minister, clearing the way for Shivakumar to assume the top post. Reports suggest the transition follows months of negotiations and internal discussions within the Congress.
However, the latest Delhi meetings indicate that several issues may still require resolution. Party leaders are believed to be discussing the future political arrangement, cabinet composition and organisational structure in Karnataka.
Congress leaders have repeatedly stressed that the priority remains maintaining unity within the state unit. Internal divisions could create challenges ahead of future elections if not managed carefully.

Political observers expect Shivakumar to take charge soon, but the Congress leadership appears keen to ensure a smooth transition.
Reports indicate that discussions may also involve cabinet reshuffles and appointments aimed at balancing different factions within the party. Several legislators are closely watching developments as leadership changes could affect ministerial positions.
The Congress leadership has worked to avoid public disagreements during the transition process. Senior leaders reportedly held multiple rounds of consultations before finalising the change in leadership.
Industry groups and business leaders have expressed hope that the transition will not affect governance or investment policies in Karnataka. Many expect continuity in major development projects and economic initiatives.
The Karnataka leadership row may have entered a new phase, but the latest Delhi meetings suggest that Congress leaders are still working through important political and organisational questions before drawing the curtain on the episode.
