Moscow: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday said he was “pleased to engage” with Russian leadership, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between Tehran and Moscow at a time of rising regional tensions.

The statement came after Araghchi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, where both sides discussed the evolving situation in West Asia and ongoing diplomatic efforts.

“Pleased to engage with Russia at the highest level as the region is in major flux,” Araghchi said, stressing that recent developments reflect the “depth and strength” of bilateral ties.

He also welcomed Russia’s continued support for diplomacy, adding that Tehran values Moscow’s role in efforts to stabilise the region.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership

The meeting underlines the deepening relationship between Iran and Russia, particularly as both nations navigate geopolitical pressure and shifting alliances.

President Putin reiterated Moscow’s commitment to helping bring peace to the region, saying Russia would do everything possible to support stability and dialogue.

Experts say the Iran-Russia partnership has expanded significantly in recent years, covering political coordination, defence cooperation, and economic engagement.

Talks Come Amid Diplomatic Uncertainty

Araghchi’s visit comes at a time when efforts to revive negotiations between Iran and the United States remain uncertain.

Recent rounds of talks have faced setbacks, with key disagreements still unresolved. Iran has simultaneously increased diplomatic outreach to regional and global partners, including Russia, Pakistan, and Oman.

Moscow has positioned itself as a potential mediator, maintaining close communication with Tehran while calling for a peaceful resolution to ongoing conflicts.
