The Supreme Court strongly warned the West Bengal government over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) voter list controversy. Chief Justice Surya Kant said nobody should question the integrity of judicial officers. Furthermore, he made it clear that the Court would not tolerate such actions.
The Court made these remarks while hearing petitions related to the removal of names from the voter list. According to the petitioners, authorities removed several names unfairly during the revision process. Therefore, the matter has raised serious concerns about voter rights and election transparency.
Lok Sabha Discusses Motion Against Om Birla
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha discussed a no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla during today’s parliamentary session.
Opposition parties moved the motion and accused the Speaker of showing bias during House proceedings. In addition, they demanded his removal from office.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju started the debate on behalf of the government. However, the ruling side strongly opposed the motion and defended Om Birla’s conduct.
The discussion soon turned heated as leaders from both sides exchanged sharp remarks. As a result, the session witnessed intense political drama inside Parliament.
Supreme Court to Hear SIR Petitions
The Supreme Court will also hear petitions filed by people whose names authorities removed from the SIR voter list.
The case remains important because it directly affects voter participation and election integrity in West Bengal. Moreover, the Court asked both parties to present detailed arguments to ensure a transparent and fair process.
Legal experts believe the hearings could play a major role in shaping future electoral procedures linked to voter list revisions.
Election Commission Responds
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar reassured citizens that all eligible voters would get the right to vote.
Additionally, he stated that the ongoing SIR dispute would not affect the fairness of elections in West Bengal. The Election Commission continues to monitor the situation closely while legal proceedings move forward.
