Modi Unveils ₹10,800 Crore Projects in Kerala & Tamil Nadu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kerala and Tamil Nadu on March 11, 2026, to launch development projects worth nearly ₹10,800 crore. During the visit, he focused on infrastructure, transport, energy, and regional connectivity across southern India.

Railway Stations Upgraded Under Amrit Bharat Scheme

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, authorities modernised three railway stations in Kerala. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the upgraded Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram, and Changanassery stations during the programme.

The renovated stations now provide better passenger facilities and improved waiting areas. In addition, officials added enhanced safety systems and modern infrastructure to improve the travel experience for commuters and long-distance passengers.

Shoranur–Nilambur Rail Line Gets Electrified

Prime Minister Modi also launched the electrification of the Shoranur–Nilambur railway line. The project will help trains operate faster and more efficiently across the route.

According to officials, the electrified line will reduce fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions. Moreover, the project will strengthen railway connectivity in several parts of Kerala.

New Kerala-Tamil Nadu Train Service Begins

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi launched a new train service connecting Palakkad in Kerala with Pollachi in Tamil Nadu.

The new service will improve travel between the two states. Furthermore, it will help traders, daily commuters, and passengers who regularly travel across the region.

Officials also expect the railway connection to strengthen economic ties between Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Rural Roads to Improve Village Access

Authorities inaugurated 23 rural roads developed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

The roads will improve access to villages and remote regions. As a result, residents will find it easier to travel to schools, hospitals, and local markets.

Officials believe better road connectivity will also support rural businesses and strengthen economic activity in smaller towns.

Highway Projects Receive Major Boost

The government also launched several highway and transport corridor projects during the visit.

These upgraded roads will reduce travel time and improve traffic flow across southern states. In addition, officials expect the projects to strengthen regional logistics and support long-term economic growth.

BPCL Kochi Refinery to Get New Unit

Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for a new polypropylene manufacturing unit at the Bharat Petroleum Kochi Refinery.

The project involves an investment of nearly ₹5,500 crore. Once completed, the facility will increase domestic polymer production used in packaging, textiles, and automobile manufacturing.

Officials also said the unit would reduce import dependence and create new employment opportunities in the region.

Floating Solar Project Starts in Kollam

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a 50 MW floating solar power project at West Kallada in Kerala’s Kollam district.

The project highlights India’s increasing focus on renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure. Moreover, the floating solar facility will generate cleaner electricity by using water bodies for power production.

Major Projects Launched in Tamil Nadu

In Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Modi launched projects worth around ₹5,650 crore.

These projects include petroleum infrastructure upgrades, highway modernisation, and rural road expansion. In addition, authorities introduced new railway services connecting Tamil Nadu with neighbouring states.

Officials believe these projects will improve transportation, trade, and industrial growth across the region.
