Fighting in Lebanon continued on Thursday after Hezbollah rejected a US-backed ceasefire proposal aimed at reducing tensions with Israel. The development has added another obstacle to diplomatic efforts to ease the wider conflict involving Iran, Israel, and regional armed groups.
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said the proposed agreement was unacceptable and demanded a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory. The Iran-backed group argued that the deal’s conditions would effectively amount to surrender.
The Hezbollah rejects ceasefire development came shortly after Israel and the Lebanese government announced a framework intended to reduce hostilities in southern Lebanon. However, Hezbollah was not directly involved in the negotiations.
