The match remained level for more than an hour at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Senegal impressed in the first half and created several dangerous chances. However, France showed their quality after the break and took control of the contest when it mattered most.
The first Kylian Mbappé France goal milestone arrived in the 66th minute. Mbappé found space inside the box and calmly beat the goalkeeper to give France the lead. The goal moved him level with Giroud’s long-standing mark.

The game changed after the interval. France increased the tempo and began to dominate possession. Their attacking depth proved decisive as Senegal’s defence came under growing pressure.
Substitute Bradley Barcola doubled France’s advantage in the 82nd minute. Senegal responded through Ibrahim Mbaye in stoppage time and briefly raised hopes of a comeback. Those hopes disappeared moments later when Mbappé unleashed a powerful strike from outside the penalty area. The spectacular effort sealed the victory and set a new national scoring record.
Record Night For Mbappé
The second Kylian Mbappé France goal achievement highlighted another remarkable chapter in the striker’s career. His brace took him to 58 goals for France. He also reached 14 World Cup goals, moving level with Germany legend Gerd Müller on the tournament’s all-time scoring list.
Former France striker Olivier Giroud congratulated Mbappé after the match and praised the captain’s achievement. France coach Didier Deschamps also welcomed the strong start to the tournament and praised his side’s response after a difficult first half.
