PM Modi Welcomes US-Iran Peace Agreement, Says It Will Boost Regional Stability

US and Iran Reach Preliminary Deal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz, Extend Ceasefire

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the breakthrough would help restore stability in West Asia and safeguard freedom of navigation through key international shipping routes. The accord, aimed at ending the conflict between Washington and Tehran and reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, is scheduled to be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19. Modi said the development could pave the way for lasting peace, regional security, and the smooth flow of global trade and energy supplies.

Although the agreement remains a preliminary framework, it marks the most significant breakthrough so far in efforts to end a conflict that has claimed thousands of lives and rattled global energy markets since the war erupted following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February. The proposed deal is being viewed as a major step toward de-escalation and restoring stability to the region.
