A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Manipur early Tuesday morning, sending tremors across several parts of the Northeast.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the quake was recorded at 5:59 am with its epicentre in Kamjong district.
The tremor originated at a depth of around 62 kilometres beneath the surface, classifying it as a moderately deep seismic event.
Tremors Felt Beyond State Borders
The impact of the quake was not limited to Manipur. Tremors were felt in neighbouring states including Nagaland, Assam and Meghalaya, prompting residents to step out of their homes.
Reports also indicated that mild shaking was experienced in parts of bordering regions, including areas close to Myanmar and even parts of Bangladesh.
No Immediate Reports of Damage
Officials said there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage following the quake.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, while local administrations remain on alert for any aftershocks or delayed impacts.
Seismically Active Region
Manipur lies in a highly seismic zone, where earthquakes are relatively frequent due to tectonic activity along the India-Myanmar boundary.
In recent weeks, the region has experienced multiple smaller tremors, underlining the ongoing geological activity in the Northeast.
