PM Modi Unveils Major ₹10,800 Crore Projects in Kerala & Tamil Nadu | Boosting Infrastructure & Renewable Energy

PM Modi’s Landmark Development Drive Across Kerala & Tamil Nadu

On March 11, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a transformative developmental mission in southern India, focusing on Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The visit highlighted projects worth nearly ₹10,800 crore across infrastructure, transport, industry, and renewable energy—making it one of the most comprehensive development efforts in the region this year.

Revolutionizing Connectivity & Transportation
Railway Modernization and Passenger Convenience

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, three major railway stations — Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram, and Changanassery — were inaugurated. These stations now feature modern amenities, improved passenger facilities, enhanced safety measures, and a more comfortable commuting experience.

Electrification for a Greener Rail Network

The Shoranur–Nilambur rail line has been fully electrified, enabling faster, cleaner, and energy-efficient train operations. This reduces carbon emissions while boosting connectivity between Kerala’s key towns.

Strengthening Inter-State Rail Links

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a new train service connecting Palakkad in Kerala to Pollachi in Tamil Nadu, enhancing inter-state mobility and fostering closer economic ties between the two states.

Upgrading Roads and Rural Infrastructure
Empowering Rural Communities

Twenty-three new rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) were inaugurated. These roads improve access to healthcare, education, and local markets for remote villages, enhancing overall quality of life.

Highway Modernization

Major highways and transport corridors were upgraded, reducing travel times, improving traffic flow, and strengthening regional economic integration.

Boosting Industrial Growth & Green Energy Initiatives
Polypropylene Manufacturing at BPCL Kochi Refinery

A foundation stone was laid for a new polypropylene unit at the BPCL Kochi Refinery with an investment of ₹5,500 crore. The facility is expected to:

  • Strengthen domestic polymer production for packaging, textiles, and automotive components

  • Reduce dependency on imports

  • Generate employment opportunities in the region

Pioneering Clean Energy: Floating Solar Power

A 50 MW floating solar project was inaugurated at West Kallada, Kollam, expanding India’s renewable energy footprint and demonstrating innovative use of water bodies for large-scale power generation.

Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu – Strategic Regional Development

Projects in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, with a combined investment of ₹5,650 crore, were inaugurated. Highlights include:

  • Upgradation of petroleum infrastructure to meet growing energy demands

  • Expansion of rural road networks connecting villages to towns and cities

  • Modernization of major highways for improved logistics and transportation

  • Launch of new train services linking Tamil Nadu to neighboring states, facilitating trade and mobility

These initiatives collectively aim to accelerate economic growth, improve regional connectivity, and promote sustainable energy solutions, reflecting the government’s commitment to holistic development in southern India.
