Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created IPL history after breaking Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single season.
The 15-year-old achieved the milestone during Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 Eliminator clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad in New Chandigarh.
Sooryavanshi smashed 97 runs off just 29 balls in a stunning innings filled with aggressive strokeplay. He hit 12 sixes during the knock and took his season tally to 65 maximums.
Chris Gayle previously held the record with 59 sixes during his iconic IPL 2012 season for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The West Indies legend’s mark had stood unbeaten for 14 years.

The Vaibhav Sooryavanshi IPL record came during one of the most explosive innings of the season.
Sooryavanshi reached his half-century in just 16 balls and attacked almost every Hyderabad bowler from the start. He also hit Pat Cummins for multiple sixes in a single over.
RR posted 243/8 in 20 overs after the teenager’s remarkable innings. Sunrisers Hyderabad were later bowled out for 196 in 19.2 overs. Rajasthan Royals won the match by 47 runs to enter Qualifier 2.
Several former cricketers praised Sooryavanshi after the record-breaking performance. Chris Gayle himself reportedly called the youngster the “new six machine” after the match.

Teenage sensation dominates IPL 2026
Sooryavanshi has emerged as one of the biggest stories of IPL 2026 with his fearless batting and extraordinary strike rate.
The teenager now leads the Orange Cap race with 680 runs this season at a strike rate above 240. Analysts and former players have described him as a once-in-a-generation T20 talent.
The Vaibhav Sooryavanshi IPL record also made him the youngest player ever to dominate a major T20 tournament at this level.
