The United States carried out fresh military strikes inside Iran and intercepted multiple Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz, according to US officials.
Officials said the operation targeted a military facility in Bandar Abbas that was allegedly preparing drone attacks against US forces and commercial shipping routes. US fighter aircraft reportedly shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones before striking the control site.
The latest action came despite ongoing diplomatic talks aimed at preserving a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. US officials described the operation as “defensive” and said it was intended to prevent threats against military and maritime assets in the Gulf region.

The US Iran strikes quickly raised fears of renewed escalation across the Middle East after weeks of unstable ceasefire negotiations.
Iranian media claimed US actions violated ongoing truce understandings. Tehran reportedly warned that any further attacks would trigger a stronger response from Iranian forces.
Explosions were reported near Bandar Abbas, a strategically important Iranian port city close to the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway handles a major share of global oil shipments and remains highly sensitive during regional conflict.
Oil markets reacted nervously after reports of the strikes emerged. Analysts warned that any prolonged disruption near the Strait of Hormuz could sharply affect global energy prices and shipping activity.

Trump rejects claims of Hormuz deal
US President Donald Trump also denied Iranian state media reports suggesting Tehran and Oman were close to a joint shipping agreement for the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said no country would be allowed to control access to the waterway. He added that the US remained prepared to act if commercial shipping faced threats.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials maintained that indirect negotiations with Washington were continuing through regional mediators. However, major disagreements reportedly remain over sanctions, uranium enrichment and maritime security.
The US Iran strikes have now added fresh uncertainty to already tense negotiations as both sides continue military and diplomatic manoeuvres across the region.
